10 Things I Love About Christmas
Christmas time is by far my favorite time of the year. It’s a time where we get the chance to spend time with our family and friends. I believe the true meaning of Christmas is to remember and celebrate the birth and life of Jesus. I thought I would share with you the things I love about Christmas.
Jesus is the Reason for the Season
Christmas for me is not about all the presents and decorating. It’s all about the Birth of Jesus. I think Christmas should be focused more on Jesus. Jesus who was God in the flesh is the one who gives the true meaning of Christmas. He gives us an amazing gift by showing us what love really looks like. Let’s all Keep Christ in Christmas.
The Christmas Story in the Bible
On Christmas Eve, I always get my Bible out and read Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:18-24, Luke 1:26-33, Isaiah 9:6, Luke 1:34-56, Luke 2:1-20, and Matthew 2:1-11. It tells the whole story of Jesus’ birth. It is so refreshing to read it every year. I’ll be telling the story of the Birth of Jesus through scriptures in my next blog post.
The Christmas Spirit
Christmas is about giving and not receiving. The holidays always brings out the best in others. People are a little nicer and lot more giving. It is a time of the year to reach out and help people who are less fortunate.
Spending Time with Family and Friends
I love spending time with my family and friends during Christmas time. It is an enjoyable part of celebrating Christmas and to remember how lucky we are to have family and friends around us who love us.
Christmas Movies
This is a perfect time of the year to watch Christmas movies. My all time favorite Christmas movie is “It’s A Wonderful Life”. Some of my other favorites are “The Nativity Story”, “A Christmas Story”, “Die Hard”, “Home Alone”, and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation”.
Christmas Hymns
Some of my favorite Christmas hymns are “Away In A Manger”, “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing”, “O Holy Night”, “Joy To The World”, “O Come All Ye Faithful”, “O Little Town of Bethlehem”, and “Go Tell It On The Mountain”. My all time favorite Christmas hymn is “Silent Night”.
Christmas Shopping
I love Christmas shopping for my loved ones. I’d rather shop online than getting out there in all that traffic and crowds. I’ve been doing my Christmas shopping online for a few years now. You can find great sales online especially on Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
Christmas Decorations
We start decorating for Christmas on Thanksgiving weekend. Decorating the Christmas tree is definitively a favorite for me. We have a large collection of decorations. I’ll confess not all the decorations get on the Christmas tree. Once the tree is decorated, the Willow Tree Nativity is set up, and all the other decorations are up it makes the living room feel warm and cozy.
All the Yummy Food
Our traditional Christmas dinner is ham, macaroni and cheese, carrot casserole, green bean casserole, and watergate salad. I won’t lie I am a sucker for the sweet food, too. I love my mother’s chocolate delight pie and pecan pie.
Sending Christmas Cards
The last couple of years I’ve created our own Christmas cards on Shutterfly. I dress up my Jack Russell Terrier, Nicholas, in some type of Christmas attire. He is the model for our Christmas cards. I love to send them to my family and friends.
